Zunil corte (wrap skirt).

This post-2000 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in one cotton blend panel – material called“aleman”, cotton/rayon blend prized for softness and drape. These panels have weft stripes featuring complex ikat dye patterns. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process similar to tie-dye. This fine example is in excellent condition. The top photograph shows only half of the material as it is sown together in a loop. Cortes are often purchased as yardage as the material is typically very sturdy. This example was acquired from Sra. Sofia Monroy Tepeu of San Pedro Sacatepequez (G)in Antigua. W 85 x L 266 cm. (20-40) $ 85 or best offer.
