Totonicapán corte (wrap skirt).
This circa-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in one indigo dyed cotton panel. The ikat patterns
in this corte are in both the warp and weft stripes. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process
similar to tie-dye. Ikat skirts are woven throughout the area between Quetzaltenango and Totonicapán. These cortes are often used as yardage.
In excellent condition. Acquired from Sra. Juana Escalon of Patzún at the
La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala. The top photograph shows only half of the material. W85 x L396 cm. 9-189. $ 90 or best offer.
