Totonicapan corte. (wrap skirt)

This post-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two matching cotton panels, one much wider. It features fine ikat dye patterns in indigo in the weft stripes. As the material is quite sturdy, cortes are often used as yardage. The top photograph shows only half of the material as it is sown together in one large loop by joining the warp ends. This beautiful example was acquired from Sra. Juana Mateo Rosales at her stall in Tinamit Maya in Panajachel. It is in very good condition. Weft 108 x Warp 400 cm. (23-36) $ 100 or best offer.
