Totonicapán corte (wrap skirt).

This circa-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in one cotton panel. It features fine ikat dye patterns in indigo in the weft stripes. As the material is quite sturdy, cortes are often purchased as yardage. The top photograph shows only half of the material as it is sown together in one large loop by joining the warp ends. This beautiful example was acquired from Sra. Carmen Tepeu of San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) in Antigua. It is in very good condition. Weft 106 x Warp 350 cm. (23-03) $ 100 or best offer.
