Totonicapán (maybe Cantel) vintage rebozo (shawl) or mantelito (table runner).
This circa-1960 rebozo was hand woven on a back strap loom in one weft striped cotton panel. These stripes include
those with complex ikat, a resist dyeing technique that is similar to tie-dye, here done in indigo. Much of the weft
stripes are in ixcaco, hand spun, undyed, naturally brown cotton. The warp thread is dyed with the natural dye, indigo
and it includes hand knotted fringes also in indigo. This vintage rebozo is in very good condition. It was acquired
from Sra. Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her tienda in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua Guatemala.
W 52 x L 131 cm plus fringes. (17-19) Was $ 200. Now $170 OBO.
