Totonicapán corte (wrap skirt).

This circa-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in one cotton panel. This corte features ikat dye patterns in indigo. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process similar to tie-dye. The top photograph shows only a third of the material. This beautiful example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Tomasa Calbo Mateo at the “bomberos” textile market in Panajachel. W 88 x L 392 cm. (17-102) $ 80. OBO
