Totonicapán corte (wrap skirt).
This post-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two cotton panels, one a meter wide plus an added
matching piece. The fine ikat patterns in indigo in the weft stripes, a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying
process similar to tie-dye. These cortes are worn widely and are considered generic instead of village specific. Ikat skirts similar to this
are woven throughout the area between Quetzaltenango and Totonicapán. The specific provenance given is according to information received from the
vendor. This example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Juana Escalon of Patzún at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala.
Typically, we sell cortes for yardage. The top photograph shows only half of the available material. W105 x L334 cm. (14-70) $ 90. OBO
