Totonicapán rebozo (shawl).

Totonicapán rebozo (shawl).

This circa-1980 rebozo was hand woven on a back strap loom in one weft striped cotton panel. These stripes include those with complex ikat, a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process similar to tie-dye. Some of the weft stripes are ixcaco, hand spun naturally brown cotton. The warp thread is dyed with the natural dye, indigo. This rebozo is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ema and Carmen Tepeu of San Pedro Sacatepequez (G) at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala. W 54 x L 196 cm plus fringes. (12-346) Was $110. Now $ 80. OBO
