Totonicapan daily huipil.
This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in one white base panel. The bottom of this panel seems to have been overdyed with red,
producing pink. This panel is decorated with horizontal bands of supplementary weft brocade featuring black and white ikat dye patterns, unusual in huipils.
This style of Totonicapan huipil is rare. This huipil also features a hand embroidered floral collar decoration. It is in very good condition. This unique
example was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her stall in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua Guatemala.
W80 x L69 cm. (12-317) $ 90.
