Tehuana festival blusa. W70 x L116 cm opened. This beautiful blusa is from the Tehuana of Oaxaca, Mexico, on the
southern coast of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. It features all hand embroidery of floral motifs on a dark green
velvet base. It has the traditional polka dot lining in red. Examples on velvet are usually worn at fiestas.
Because Frida Kalo collected them, they are often referred as “Frida blouses”. Tehuana women are famous for their
power in their communities. (see the documentary, “Blossoms of Fire”) This fine example is in excellent condition.
It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (10-265) $ 160. SOLD.
