Tecpan ceremonial huipil. W69 x L116 cm opened. This circa-1970 ceremonial huipil (rij po't style) was hand woven on a back strap loom in one stripied cotton panel. Much of the base thread is ixcaco - hand spun naturally brown cotton. The panels are decorated with supplementary brocade in cotton and silk featuring the plumed serpent motif and other geometric designs. The head and arm holes are trimmed with "china cinta" applique, a traditional feature. Tecpan ceremonialhuipils are highly prized and rare. It is in very good condition.
