Tecpan ceremonial huipil.

A spectacular example. Hand woven on a back-strap loom in two wide, well-matched, warp-striped cotton panels. The brown warp stripes are “ixcaco” – hand spun, undyed naturally brown cotton. The finely woven surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring bird, plumed serpent and universal diamond motifs, front and back, all in silk. The other warp stripes are believed to be in natural dyes. “China cinta” trimmed collar. I have had a few of these, but Tecpan ceremonial huipils are rare and becoming more so. This outstanding example is in excellent condition. From the Museo de Tejido Antiguo in San Antonio Aguas Calientes, Guatemala. W 138 x L 62 cm. (23-13) $ 1200 or best offer.
