Tecpan ceremonial huipil

This circa-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide, well-matched, warp-striped cotton panels. The brown warp stripes are “ixcaco” – hand spun undyed naturally brown cotton. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade, much of it in silk, featuring bird and universal diamond motifs, front and back. Tecpan ceremonial huipils are rare. This exceptional example is in very good condition. Acquired from a private collection in Guatemala. W 133 x L 63 cm. (18-36) $450. OBO
