Tecpan antique ceremonial huipil.

From the Dr. Richard P. Mandell collection.

This circa-1960 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two wide warp-striped cotton panels. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade, all in silk, featuring bird and universal diamond motifs across the front and back. The brown warp stripes are “ixcaco” – naturally brown, hand spun cotton. The collar is trimmed with “china cinta” (Chinese ribbon). Tecpan ceremonial huipils such as this one are rare. Known in Quiche as the “rij po’t”. This beautiful example is in excellent condition. W 141 x L 57 cm. (16-227) $ 700. OBO
