This pre-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well-balanced blue cotton base panels. These panels are dyed with indigo, which is quite unusual and an indication of its age. They are decorated with horizontal bands of supplementary weft brocade featuring bird, universal diamond and floral motifs. This beautiful example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus at her stall in the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua Guatemala. W 71 x L 51 cm. (12-316) Was $125. Now $95 or best offer.
