Tecpan ceremonial huipil.
This type of huipil is known in Quiche as the “rij po’t”. Hand woven
on a back strap loom in two wide cotton panels. Most of the warp
stripes are “ixcaco” – hand spun undyed naturally brown cotton.
The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring
extravagant plumed serpent motifs across the front and back.
Pre-1980. Tecpan ceremonial huipils are rare. This quality example is in very good condition.
