Sumpango daily huipil.

This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two dark red warp-striped cotton/rayon blend panels. This base fabric blend is known as “aleman” and is prized for its softness and drape. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand embroidery. The main feature of Sumpango huipils is the rows of hand embroidery circling the head opening in patterns unique to Sumpango. Sumpango huipils are increasingly rare. This fine example is in very good condition. It was acquired from Sra. Juana Escalon at the “bomberos” market in Panajachel. W 87 x L 47 cm. (17-14) $ 100. OBO
