Sumpango daily huipil.

This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two blue cotton/rayon blend panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The base fabric blend is known as “aleman” and is prized for its softness and drape. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand embroidery. The main feature of Sumpango huipils is the rows of hand embroidery circling the head opening. Sumpango huipils are increasingly rare. This lovely example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Ema and Carmen Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 88 x L 55 cm. (15-130) $ 95. OBO
