Sumpango daily huipil.

This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two red warp-striped cotton/rayon blend panels. The base fabric blend is known as “aleman” and is prized for its softness and drape. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand embroiderey. The main feature of Sumpango huipils is the rows of hand embroidery circling the head opening. Sumpango huipils are increasingly rare. This classic example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Tomasa Calbo Mateo at the “bomberos” market in Panajachel. W 85 x L 57 cm. (15-128) $ 110. OBO
