Sumpango daily huipil. W 82 x L 118 cm opened. The base of this post-1980 huipil is a heavy white cotton
commercial fabric known as “manta”. The panels are joined in front and back by a hand embroidered decorative seams.
The collar and arm holes are trimmed with a multi-colored hand embroidered stitch. The main feature of Sumpango
huipils is the concentric rows of hand embroidered floral and sunburst designs circling the head opening. Sumpango
huipils are increasingly rare. This extra-clean example is in like new condition. It was acquired from Ema and
Carmen Tepeu at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua Guatemala. (See Ema and Carmen's pictures in our "Vendors"
