Sumpango daily huipil. W87 x L114 cm opened. We think the base of this post-1980 huipil is a heavy white cotton commercial fabric known as “manta”. The panels are joined in front by a hand embroidered decorative seam. The collar and arm holes are trimmed with a hand embroidered multi-colored chain stitch. The main feature of Sumpango huipils is the concentric rows of hand embroidered floral and sunburst designs circling the head opening. Sumpango huipils are increasingly rare. This extra-clean example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Estefana Culajah of Patzun at the La Fuente market in Antigua Guatemala. (10-187) $ 170. SOLD.
