Sumpango daily huipil.

This post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two predominantly maroon striped cotton/rayon panels, a blend known as “aleman” that is prized for its drape and softness. These panels are joined by hand embroidered seams. The head and arm openings are trimmed with hand embroiderey. The main feature of Sumpango huipils is the rows of hand embroidered floral designs circling the head opening. Sumpango huipils are increasingly rare. This wide and unique example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus. W88 x L116 cm opened. (10-186) $ 110. OBO
