Sumpango is a Kaqchikel speaking town in the Department of Sacatepéquez just south of the Pan-American Highway. The women of Sumpango do not weave their own huipils, getting daily ones from Santo Domingo Xenacoj and ceremonial ones from San Martin Jilotepeque. The Sumpango huipil is known for the distinctive floral embroidery done around the neck opening, added on by Sumpango women themselves. Sumpango women also wear an elaborate hair ribbon made just for their village in Totonicapán. Sumpango huipils are increasingly rare.
