"The woolen jackets are constructed locally by specialized tailors, who use cloth woven in other communities. The blue jacket generally is closed, while the others, the black, the gray, and the white, are open. All have black lapels and two or three pockets. . . The jackets are decorated with appliques of soutache braid and castille tape on the lower edge, the back, the cuffs, elbows, pockets, and lapels. The traditional design for the back is the "bat", also interpreted as the "butterfly", and the "quetzal"." "Tzute and Hierarchy in Sololá" by Guisela Mayén de castellanos.
