Solola antique ceremonial huipil.

From the Dr. Richard P. Mandell collection.

This circa-1960 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three warp-striped cotton panels. Some of these warp stripes are ixcaco - hand-spun naturally brown cotton. Other base threads are also hand spun and utilize natural dyes. Hand embroidered multi-colored decorative seams, primarily in silk, join the panels. It features simple ikat patterned warp stripes and embroidered geometric designs in silk. The traditional collar design features a satin rosette sun symbol around the head opening and is hand embroidered, primarily in silk. This rare and classic example is in very good condition. W 125 x L 81 cm. (16-212) $ 550. OBO.
