Sololá ceremonial mantel (table cloth).
This pre-1980 mantel was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two
warp-striped cotton panels joined by a hand embroidered decorative seam. It features simple but extensive
ikat dye patterning in indigo. The brown stripes are ixcaco, hand spun naturally brown cotton. This is the
type of mantel used by the cofradia (Maya ceremonial society) of Sololá. It is large and in very good condition.
It was acquired from Sra. Sophia Monroy Tepeú at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua.
