Solola cofradia chaqueta - men's ceremonial jacket.
This post-1980 men's ceremonial jacket was tailored from material hand woven on a back strap loom in un-dyed hand-spun wool. It is decorated with black applique
designs. The design on the back symbolizes a bat. This jacket has been used in many ceremonies of the cofradia of Santa Cruz. Authentic examples such as this
are rare. It is fully lined with blue corduroy and has zippered interior pockets. This jacket is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Paulina Ramos
of Sololá at her tienda in front of the Casa de Huespedes San Francisco on Calle Santander in Panajachel. W at shoulders 48 cm x L 51 x sleeves 49 cm.
(11-287) Was $210. Now $180 or best offer.
"The woolen jackets are constructed locally by specialized tailors, who use cloth woven in other communities.
The blue jacket generally is closed, while the others, the black, the gray, and the white, are open. All have
black lapels and two or three pockets. . . The jackets are decorated with appliques of soutache braid and
castille tape on the lower edge, the back, the cuffs, elbows, pockets, and lapels. The traditional design for
the back is the "bat", also interpreted as the "butterfly", and the "quetzal"."
