Santo Domingo Xenacoj ceremonial (cofradia) huipil.

This fine circa-2000 huipil was hand woven on a back-strap loom in three cotton panels joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring zoomorphic, bird and double-headed eagle motifs. The collar is trimmed in embroidered chain stitch. This style is associated with cofradia society ceremonies. Xenacoj cofradia huipils are rare. It was acquired from an important private collection in Antigua Guatemala. W 98 x L 66 cm. (19-22) $400.
