Santo Domingo Xenacoj wedding huipil.
This hupil was hand wovon a back strap loom in two warp-striped cotton panels joined
by hand embroidered decorative seams. The brown warp stripes are “ixcaco”, hand spun naturally brown cotton. The surface
decoration is supplementary brocade, some in silk. It is decorated to the hem, meaning that it was to be worn out, as with
ceremonial huipils. The collar is trimmed with had embroidery. This exceptional example is in excellent condition.
It was acquired from Sra. Milagro Chavez at the La Fuente textile market in Antigua. W 80 x L 70 cm. (16-181) $ 210. OBO
