Santo Domingo Xenacoj ceremonial (cofradia) huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three cotton/rayon blend panels that are joined by hand embroidered decorative seams. This fabric blend is known as “aleman” and is prized for its softness and drape. The center panel is wider and more heavily decorated. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade featuring many motifs – double headed eagle, plumed serpent, plant, animal and bird. Xenacoj cofradia huipils are rare. It is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Petronila Mendez Bocó at the Mercado des Artesanos in Antigua. W 85 x L 54 cm. (15-131) Was $225. Now $195 or best offer.
