Santo Domingo Xenacoj is a Kaqchikel speaking town in the Deparment of Sacatepéquez. Xenacoj is reputed to mean “we feel the pumas”. The town predates the Spanish conquest. The huipils from Xenacoj share many stylistic similarities with the neighboring San Pedro and San Juan Sacatepéquez. “The frequent use of picked pile brocade is especially noteworthy here as it is used in everyday huipils as well as ceremonial ones. By this technique, an extra flick of the finger on the thread creates a raised design sticking up from the base fabric, giving it a more opulent look than plain flat brocading.” (Altman and West, Threads of Identity, Fowler Museum, p. 161)
