Santiago Sacatepequez tzute or mantel (table cloth). W140 x L160 cm. This very large tzute (or possible a mantel – table cloth) was hand woven on a back strap loom in two well matched cotton panels. The panels are joined by a multi-colored hand embroidered decorative seam. Each panel features 54 bird motifs and a border at each end in supplementary brocade. Because of its very large size – the largest example of a similar piece we have ever seen, it was very likely used ceremonially. It is in very good condition. It was acquired from the Nim Po’t Collection of Antigua Guatemala. (6-486) $ 280 *SOLD*
