Santiago Chimaltenango daily huipil. W51 cm (across the shoulders), 25 cm sleeves and L61 cm (shoulder to hem). The base material of this post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two predominantly red cotton panels covered by a grid of stripes in various colors. The sleeves are of the same fabric. The base material is decorated with supplementary brocade featuring several different universal diamond designs. It also has a traditional collar and cuffs. This tailoring is unique to Santiago Chimaltenango huipils and they are one of only two huipil styles that have sleeves. These huipils are increasingly rare and this is a fine example. It is in very good condition. It was acquired from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango. (8-171) $ 75. Sold.
