Santiago Chimaltenango faja (sash)

This post-1980 faja was hand woven in cotton on a belt loom. It is decorated in supplementary brocade featuring several variations on the universal diamond motif. Each end has a hand knotted fringe composed of the warp threads. These sashes are uncommon. It is in excellent condition. It was collected from Ana Carolina Ajanel of Chichicastenango.
