Santiago Chimaltenango is a remote Mam speaking town in the Department of Huehuetenango, until recently only accessible by foot trail and an “exceedingly rough” jeep trail from San Pedro Necta. The huipil of Santiago Chimaltenango is unique in having sleeves added to the body. The base material is typically red with brocade decoration of geometric patterns across the chest and back.
