Santiago Atitlán daily huipil.

This very fine post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels with dark purple warp stripes. A grid is formed by supplementary brocade weft stripes in dark purple. The bird decorations are all hand embroidery. This fine huipil features complex fanciful birds within the grid, a style more characteristic of the 1980’s. But the floral collar decoration with callow lilies is a more recent fashion. It is of very high quality and in excellent condition. It was acquired from Don Miguel and his wife, Doña Concepcion Angel Mendoza of Santiago Atitlán. W85 x L150 cm opened. (9-126) $ 275. OBO
