Santiago Atitlán ceremonial huipil.
This rare ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton panels. It
features a traditional hand embroidered collar design. It has an intentional stain in purple and may be a natural mullosk
derived dye, which would be very rare. These huipils are worn on religious holidays such as God Friday and at cofradia
society ceremonies. It is especially large and is worn outside the wrap skirt. The base thread is hand spun. It was
collected from Miguel Angel Mendoza Tucún of Santiago Atitlan. W107 x L218 cm opened.
