Santiago Atitlán corte (wrap skirt).

Hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two weft striped cotton panels, one a meter wide, the other a matching narrow piece added for length. This corte features the very complex ikat dye patterns for which Santiago Atitlán is famous. Ikat is technique that employs a resist dying process where groups of threads are dyed before they are woven and then arranged on the loom to create patterns. This very fine example is in very good condition. Circa 1975. From the collection of Joan Jacobson of Tucson. Weft 108 x Warp 330 cm. 21-253. $ 125 or best offer.
