Santiago Atitlán vintage corte (wrap skirt).
Hand woven on a foot treadle loom in a weft striped cotton panel
with matching trim for length. This corte features the complex ikat dye patterns for which Santiago Atitlán is
famous. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process similar to
tie-dye, except that different combinations of threads are dyed together before they are woven. This classic
example is in traditional colors and is in very good condition. The top photograph shows only half of the
material as it is sown together in one large loop by joining the warp ends. Circa 1960 or earlier.
From the collection of Joan Jacobson of Tucson. Weft 104 x Warp 334 cm. 21-171. $ 150 or best offer. Sold.
