Santiago Atitlán ceremonial huipil.
This circa-1980 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels with purple warp stripes
and shadow weaving weft stripes. The thread of the base panels is hand spun. This huipil features the traditional Santiago Atitlán
hand embroidery over taffeta collar design. These huipils are worn on religious holidays such as Good Friday and at cofradia society
functions. It is dress length and worn outside the wrap skirt. This fine example is in very good condition.
It was acquired from Jose Maria Barreno Picup at “El Guipil” in Panajachel. W 109 x L 110 cm. (20-55) $ 120 or best offer.
