This post-1980 corte was hand woven on a foot treadle loom in two weft striped cotton panels. Typical of Santiago Atitlán cortes, the panels are not equal width, with a main panel and a matching narrower piece added for length. This corte features the very fine ikat dye patterns for which Santiago Atitlán is famous. Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dying process similar to tie-dye. This fine example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from the late Candelaria Mendeza Ruiz in Santiago Atitlán. The top photograph shows only half of the material.
