W85 x L178 cm opened. This very fine post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two mauve cotton base panels with dark purple warp stripes. A grid is formed by supplementary brocade weft stripes in white and mauve. The decoration of birds and flowers is all hand embroidery. This fine example features complex fanciful birds within the horizontal grid and a floral collar decoration. Some metallic thread is used subtly wihin the embroidery. It is of very high quality and in excellent condition. It was acquired from Don Miguel and his wife, Doña Concepcion Angel Mendoza of Santiago Atitlán. (10-178) $ 340. OBO
