Santiago Atitlán huipil. W82 x L164 cm opened. This very fine contemporary daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two light blue cotton base panels with black warp stripes. A grid is formed by supplementary brocade weft stripes. The decoration of birds and flowers is all hand embroidery. This modern example features larger realistic birds overlapping the grid. It is of very high quality and in excellent condition. It was made by and acquired from master embroiderer Rosario Reanda Quiju of Santiago Atitlán, the sister of three of the village’s most renowned painters. (10-176) $ 450. SOLD.
