Santiago Atitlán daily huipil.

This post-1980 huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two violet cotton base panels with purple warp stripes. In this modern example, weft stripes, the horizontal element of the traditional base grid, have disappeared and the embroidered birds, butterflies and flowers are not structured by this background. The surface decoration is all hand embroidered. This example is in good condition. It was acquired from the late Candelaria Mendoza Ruiz of Santiago Atitlán. W 86 x L 80 cm. (10-173) $ 90. OBO
