Santiago Atitlán daily huipil. W83 x L158 cm opened. This very fine post-1980 daily huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in two white cotton base panels with dark purple warp stripes. A grid is formed by supplementary brocade weft stripes in black and purple. The decoration of birds and flowers is all hand embroidery. This fine example features flowers and fanciful birds within the grid and a floral collar decoration. Some metallic thread is used subtly within the embroidery. This huipil is of very high quality and in excellent condition. It was acquired from the late Candelaria Mendoza Ruiz of Santiago Atitlán and is believed to be her work. (10-170) $ 300. Sold.
