W96 x L224 cm opened. This contemporary ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels joined by red embroidered decorative
seams. It is very large and long. The principal decoration is supplementary brocade that features plumed serpent, universal diamond, double-headed eagle and other
motifs. The head hole is trimmed in embroidered chain stitch. Santa Maria de Jesus ceremonial huipils are rare. The like new condition of this one causes one to
wonder if it has actually been used. It was acquired from Petronila Mendez Bocó of Santa Maria de Jesus. (7-272) $ 160. SOLD.
