Santa Maria de Jesus ceremonial huipil de nina.

Classic ceremonial style of Santa Maria de Jesus. Hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels. The base thread is hand spun. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade, which features plumed serpent, universal diamond and double-headed eagle motifs. The head opening is trimmed in a chain stitch. Small, so apparently made for a girl of perhaps 10 years old. Santa Maria de Jesus ceremonial huipils are rare, nina examples are very rare. This one is in excellent condition. It was acquired from Sra. Carmen Tepeu at her “tienda” on 4e Calle Oriente in Antigua Guatemala. W 67 x L 79 cm. (23-23) $ 250 or best offer.
