Santa Maria de Jesus festival huipil.
This circa-1980 huipil features all hand embroidery in silk on an indigo dyed cotton base.
The central motif of the embroidery is a symmetrical pair of quetzal birds. Hand embroidered examples of this huipil are rare.
Those embroidered in all silk are far more rare. This example is in a class by itself. It is in excellent condition.
It was acquired from the Museo de Tejido Antiguo in San Antonio Aguas Calientes. W 91 x L 74 cm. 23-07. $ 1200 or best offer. Sold.
