Santa Maria de Jesus ceremonial huipil.
This pre-2000 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three white cotton panels. It is dress length.
The well-balanced surface decoration is supplementary brocade, some in silk, which features plumed serpent, universal diamond, double-headed eagle, man/women
and other motifs. The head opening is trimmed in a chain stitch. Santa Maria de Jesus ceremonial huipils are increasingly rare.
This example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from an important private collection in Antigua Guatemala. W 94 x L 101 cm. (19-25) $ 500. OBO
