Santa Maria de Jesus ceremonial huipil.

This circa-1990 ceremonial huipil was hand woven on a back strap loom in three black cotton panels with greater decoration on the wider center panel. It is large and long. The surface decoration is supplementary brocade, mostly in red, that features plumed serpent, universal diamond, and bird motifs. The head opening is trimmed in hand embroidered green chain stitch. Santa Maria de Jesus ceremonial huipils are rare. This one’s color palate is most unusual. This beautiful example is in excellent condition. It was acquired from the collection of an ex-US diplomat in Guatemala. W 87 x L 102 cm. (16-21) $ 225. OBO
